With heavy snow falling in parts of Edinburgh and West Lothian, including Armadale, on Wednesday some doubts were cast on the likelihood of Friday's 70th Anniversary Challenge going ahead. The good news is that the riders are expected to come to tapes on Friday evening.

Ronnie Anderson was at the stadium on Thursday and removed all the snow from the track. Although underneath the surface was still very wet there was an opportunity for the afternoon sunshine to do some drying and with the forecast suggesting that it will remain dry but for an afternoon shower on Friday it is the track staff's belief that all will be well. In fact the sunshine cleared most of the snow from the centre green and other areas of the stadium during the afternoon.

The final member of the Champions team has been confirmed as Danish rider Jacob Buckhave who rode so well in the Caledonian Riders Championship last year and is looking to establish himself in British Speedway. With no other League winning Monarchs available, Jacob is keen to grasp the opportunity with both hands.

The Easter Eggs, due to be distributed last week, will be given to the first 100 children through the gate this week.

All tickets purchased for last week's meeting are valid on Friday but Gold Card members should note that the season opening special price offer only applies to this event and not to the rearranged Scottish Cup match against Glasgow coming up later in the season.
