Tonight’s eagerly awaited Championship Pairs competition at Somerset, in which the Parsons Peebles Monarchs were amongst the favourites, has had to be called off due to heavy rain.

Of course it is part of the Cardiff weekend which has fans flocking to the south west for the two events which both usually provide a feast of entertainment. It has been a very wet afternoon at Somerset and even though they managed to cover the corners, the situation has gone beyond repair.

Traffic has also been bad, as it often is at this event, and some fans abandoned their trip prematurely anyway, settling for a weekend in Cardiff. Some fans feel the decision should have been made earlier but it is never an easy call.

We have no news yet on whether the meeting can be rescheduled.
