With the clock ticking down till the tapes go up on the Harrisons Scottish Open Championship we can now announce rider number 5 from the field.

That man is popular Swede and captain of the Newcastle Diamonds Ludvig Lindgren.

Ludvig is one of the most popular riders in speedway and many of the Monarchs faithful will remember his brilliance when guesting for the team in a home double header last year against Redcar and Scunthorpe where he raced to not one but two maximums in a feat that can’t have been repeated too many times in speedway history.

This will be Ludvig’s maiden appearance in the Open (although older brother Freddie did make an appearance back in 2001) and if he can match his heroics from that night he could well be a dark horse to take home the honours.

So 5 down 11 to go. Look back tomorrow when we will announce the 6th rider who will be going after the famous Jack Young Memorial trophy.
