We have finally had disappointing news regarding the prospects of our starlet Dan Bewley returning to action as we had hoped, and it seems unlikely he will be able to get on a bike again this season.

The advice he has been given has not been clear cut, leading to the rider himself being unsure which way to turn, but the wisest course seems to be that he should take it easy and rest for some time before contemplating a return.

John Campbell said “We firmly believed last Wednesday after talking with Dan that he was ready to return for last Friday’s visit of Somerset, but he was asked by his doctor the next day to delay pending a further hospital visit.

“Even there he received mixed messages but I think we are all agreed that he needs to be very careful after what was a potentially serious injury. Following a head injury with concussion you cannot be too careful.”

It’s a big blow for the rider and the team, because his form prior to the crash was sensational – by far the best no. 7 in the Premier League over the the preceding few weeks. It will be very hard for replacements under his 3.55 average to get anywhere near his scoring.

However the most important thing is for Dan to make a complete recovery and come back when he is ready.
