After Sunday evening's match at Newcastle we have a little more clarity on our chances of reaching the League Cup semi finals and it's looking good for us.

At the moment we sit top of the Border group but Workington, with two matches to come against Berwick, could still overhaul us. However, that will not be easy for the Comets. First of all they must pick up all four match points available at Berwick next Saturday night and win by a score of approximately 60 to 30 and then they must follow that up at home next Sunday with an even bigger win. It's a big ask for the Comets.

If they manage it and we fall to second place then our qualification would be dependent on Newcastle's final home match with Sheffield. The Diamonds had a win over Redcar on Sunday evening by 48 to 41. That gives them a points difference now of minus six so that means that if we fall to second place in our group the Diamonds must defeat Sheffield in their final home match by 71 to 19 to jump ahead of us. If our calculations are correct then we are fairly confident that we have made it to the semi finals.

In Germany on Saturday afternoon Kevin Wolbert failed in his attempt to be crowned German Pairs champion. He was representing Meissen Hornets and was joint top scorer in the meeting with 25 points but his experienced partner, Mathias Kroger managed just 9 and that wasn't enough to defeat Wittstock on 40.

Erik Riss flew out of Edinburgh at six in the morning on Sunday to race in an international four team tournament at Neustadt Donau. Denmark won the meeting ahead of the Germans. Erik scored 7 from his five rides, winning his last race. Third were Poland and a Great Britain team of Barker, Howarth, Ellis and Richie Worrall finished last.
