The Border Roofing Monarchs had a successful practise session this afternoon after meeting press and sponsors, and it was announced by John Campbell that no. 1 Craig Cook will take over the team captaincy.

Craig said “We’ve got a good bunch of riders this year and it’s a pleasure to be captain. I think we can do very well again.”

After receiving their race jackets from both the team sponsors Eddie and Norma McKenna, and from some of the race jacket sponsors, the boys took to the track which was in good condition.

Max Clegg was the first to take a tumble but did no damage, and everyone seemed to enjoy the session. Naturally there was a lot of attention on Erik Riss who rode Armadale for the first time, and the impressive thing was that he attacked the track right from his first lap.

He adopted a leg-trail style as he turned probably tighter than he ever has before. Afterwards he said “It’s a tricky track but I think I can learn to ride it OK.”

Erik’s father Gerd, the longtrack legend, was there with his son as well as the family dog!

Supporters present may have noticed our new 51 seater fourth bend grandstand.

The team ride their first match, the Spring Trophy first leg, tomorrow at Glasgow (3pm).
