The 2014 Scotwaste Monarchs took to the track yesterday in conditions which were ideal for speedway, watched by a fair number of interested supporters looking forward to the season which begins for us next Friday.

First on track was Stevie Worrall, who had already raced a (partial) meeting at Coventry the previous evening. He looked fast and smooth, though as usual in practise, if everyone does as well as they looked, we’ll win every match by the maximum score!

Our American Aaron Fox would have liked to have his other machine ready but is awaiting parts, however he was last out at the end of the session and was getting to know the track.

Derek Sneddon had a wee scare with one of his engines but is hopeful no damage has been done.

Former no. 1 Willie Lawson also took the chance to put in some laps and looked quick!

No-one tested the resilience of the Air Fence, standing impressively round the circuit, the product of our winter fundraising and supporters’ donations. Some of the panel sponsors joined us for photographs and at the presentation to the Press. Friday’s match of course is in aid of the Air Fence Fund and should ensure that we have successfully raised our target total to buy and maintain the Fence, for which once again we thank our great supporters.

At the presentation of race jackets which preceded the track session (jackets presented by Stewart Melrose sr.), the proudest Monarch was Ed the Monarch who now has his own personal race jacket.

Today Craig Cook rides in the Elite Riders’ Championship, televised by Sky TV (6pm).
