At the third time of asking the Redcar v Somerset play-off match went ahead at the South Tees Motoparc on Thursday evening and it took the Somerset Rebels just ten heats to ensure that they will progress to the Final to be our Championship Play Off opposition and the eventually won the match by 47 to 43.

The Rebels were always in charge and although they were unable to pull out a big lead the required result was comfortably achieved. Jason Doyle and Nick Morris had a great meeting for the Rebels but, not surprisingly, the Rebels had far too much fire power for the Bears to trouble them. It’s taken somewhat longer than expected but the Rebels got there in the end.

With both finalists having Friday as their regular race day the managements of each Club will be locked in talks to establish the final race dates. As the top team in the league at the end of the regular season, the Rebels have the right to choose if they hold the first or second leg but as the Monarchs are the senior Friday club we have the right to race on a Friday.

The Championship seems too close to call. The Scotwaste Monarchs won both the league matches before the initial staging of the Knock Out Cup semi final produced a draw before the Rebels produced a convincing aggregate win of ten points in the replay. However, that win was only the equal of the combined scores in the leagues matches.

It seems that we have two very evenly matches teams lining up to produce the matches of the season to decide the Championship.
