Another day has gone and another play-off meeting is over and we still don't know who we will meet in the Championship Play-Off Final.

Newcastle and Somerset were racing this evening at Newcastle Stadium with the Rebels needing a point to be certain of topping the other play-off group and although the match was close throughout the Rebels failed, in a last heat decider, to pick up the 5-1 they needed to secure a match point. The Diamonds ran out winners by 50 points to 43. That means the Rebels remain favourites to qualify but leaves all three teams in the group still in with chance of topping the section, although for Newcastle and Redcar it is very much a long shot now.

The final match in the group, the twice rained off Redcar v Somerset match is now scheduled to take place next Thursday. The timing of that meeting has left the Scotwaste Monarchs management in a quandary and on Sunday evening they were considering all options. It had been hoped to stage the first leg of the Final on Friday at Armadale.

It is expected that an announcement will be made sometime on Monday to confirm the situation.
