DECISION ON 2013 DEFERRED

The Scotwaste Monarchs’ directors have deferred the decision on running in the 2013 season for two weeks while they consider the position of the club and try to plug the funding gap.

The club directors have already put funds into the club this season and now they are opening the doors for further investment, if there is anyone who wants to be involved in keeping the club alive.

This might be a major investor, obviously desirable, but it doesn’t need to be. There has already been an approach from a group of supporters prepared to assist with £500 per head, and if there were enough like-minded fans then this might be an avenue to allow another Armadale season to proceed.

All of the directors are involved in trying to keep the club going, including John Campbell even though John has indicated his intention to step down as co-promoter.

It’s been Armadale’s worst season financially with the weather largely to blame, but also with some disappointing crowds towards the end of the season for meaningful matches on relatively reasonable days.

It is felt that the long-term future of the club lies at a new venue, most obviously Ingliston Showgrounds, but talks which began with Showground officials in June have not reached a conclusion yet, and it would appear that Armadale is the only realistic option for 2013.

Keeping the club going would obviously make the transition to a new venue easier to accomplish. The decision to run or not would have to be transmitted to the sport’s governing body by 16th November.

Two other northern clubs have changed promotion recently, essential to their survival, and in a bad season for UK speedway with many clubs struggling, this is the Monarchs’ plea for assistance.
