RORY FIRST UP FOR MATTHEW

Rory Schlein is the first name to be announced for the Stormy Wethers Testimonial at Armadale on Friday 17th August.

Rory and Matthew rode together for Monarchs in 2003 and 2004 but in fact they go further back than that.

Rory says “I’ve probably got more memories of Matt from the junior days back in Australia. I was fortunate enough to win an Australian under-15 Best Pairs, and that was with Matthew. We weren’t even rated to get on the podium but we ended up cleaning up, and then the next night I won the Under-16 individual.

“That was at Darwin and it was a pretty memorable weekend. It was more of a surprise than anything, me and Matthew didn’t even know we’d won it! Our parents told us we’d won it and we were quite amazed!

“We had some really good races in the junior days. When he came over for Edinburgh in 2003 he was pretty much thrown in at the deep end, and I thought he handled himself very well. We picked up league winners’ medals that year and obviously he’s established himself as a heat leader for Edinburgh.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at Edinburgh on the 17th for Matthew’s big day.”
