We were understandably a bit rusty but still supplied five different race winners as we went down 49-41 at Redcar in our first match of the season.

Redcar of course had already raced a couple of matches but against that they lost Gary Havelock in a nasty crash which also knocked some of the stuffing out of Derek Sneddon.

Havelock fell right in front of our no. 2 who could not avoid him. The home captain went off in an ambulance while Derek, who had flown through the air and been hit by his own machine, rose gingerly.

Micky Dyer's debut was most encouraging. He won an awarded heat 2 after Dilger had fallen, and was well placed in his next two, only losing points through mistakes.

In his last ride he pulled off an excellent paid win behind Matthew Wethers, tenaciously holding off Sedgmen.

Our other race winners came in the latter stages, Craig Cook winning heat 9, then Andrew Tully beat Aaron Summers in the joint fastest time of the night in heat 11. Just shows what our number one can do when he makes the start.

We took that Wethers/Dyer 5-1 in heat 12, and then another through Charles Wright and Theo Pijper in heat 14.

However we lost 5-1s in heats 13 and 15 to just miss a point. The cobwebs should be away now, everyone has scored points so no excuses from now on.

The David Harrison Ford Scottish Open starts our home season tomorrow night.
