The Scotwaste Monarchs made it hard for themselves in the Knockout Cup tie with Sheffield and have to pull back a 31-59 deficit after the first leg at Owlerton.

We feared that Craig Cook and Kalle Katajisto may not be fully fit after crashes last weekend, and so it proved as both riders struggled. They will both be trying again tomorrow however.

Really the only two Monarchs who came up to expectations were Matthew Wethers and Kyle Howarth, both excellent.

Kevin Wolbert won heat 5, a 5-1 with Matthew over Josh Auty no less, but otherwise he was below par, as was Andrew Tully who led his first race but thereafter gated poorly.

We have often piled up big scores against Sheffield at Armadale but we will need to excel ourselves tomorrow. Most certainly we will be going for it.
