The Scotwaste Monarchs put up a battling performance at Scunthorpe today before going down to a 46-44 defeat. A point is a reasonable consolation.

Craig Cook led the way with a brilliant 16 points and is surely one of the signings of the season. Kevin Wolbert after a last place in heat 1 was also in exciting form with some bold outside line riding, and Andrew Tully was another to win a heat from the back.

Kyle Howarth again looked the part and was unbeaten after his first two rides. He fell heavily in heat 14 making a bold move round the outside, though he is OK.

Matthew Wethers looked a bit down on power, and Lee Dicken hasn't quite caught up with the others yet.

We took the lead via a Cook-Howarth 5-1 in heat 4 and were still ahead at heat 9. We dropped behind in heat 10 but sensational riding by Wolbert and Cook to pass Howe in heat 13 put us ahead again.

We lost another 5-1 in heat 14 though, and the choice of gates was important in heat 15. The home side took 2 and 4 and led the way, and even though Howe pulled out our riders could not catch Aarnio.

It was a very encouraging performance though and had Katajisto been there it would probably have been a win.
