We performed well and took advantage of Berwick's woes to walk off 55-35 winners at Shielfield.

Berwick had a revamped team which utilised guests Carl Wilkinson and Ritchie Hawkins plus home star Jacek Rempala and rider replacement for the injured Kus.

This appeared to be a side which could give us a run for it at Berwick, and for seven heats they did.

Thereafter we really got the bit between our teeth. George Stancl was the strong man in the early heats, Kaj Laukkanen and Matthew Wethers came good in the latter stages, and guest reserve Michael Coles brought back memories of his great days with a stunning paid 16 from reserve!

A heat 12 5-1 against Ritchie Hawkins who was riding as a TR put us in an unassailable position.

However we went on to take a heat 13 4-2 and even finish up with a last heat 5-1, each of these heats showing Matthew Wethers at his best.

We have kept alive our Young Shield hopes, with just the home and away matches against Somerset to complete in the coming week.
